Our Eco Vicarage

The Vicarage

This property is a three storey, four bedroom detached dwelling house, designed and built as a parsonage to comply with the Church of England design guide in 2011.

The accommodation to the ground floor consists of a porch, entrance hall, study, sitting room and cloakroom with stairs leading to the accommodation above. On the first floor there is the kitchen, utility room, cloakroom, second reception room and bedroom 4. The second floor accommodation comprises of three bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and the bathroom.

What makes this house different for all other parsonage houses is that it was also designed as a Passiv Haus and complies with the Code for Sustainable Homes criteria for level 6, which was as high as it went.

This means that the energy usage will be about a quarter of that which would be required for a house built at the same time to the current building industry standards. There is no central heating boiler, but there is a full air handling unit which assists in providing warm air in the winter and cool air in the summer. There are also solar roof panels that provide electricity and hot water.

To achieve all of this, large amounts of insulation have been provided all around the building fabric together with a very high standard of air – tightness. This means that holes, even including nails for picture hooks, cannot be made in the external wall fabric.

This is a very environmentally aware building from the materials that were used to construct it, together with its current carbon footprint in use and what has been provided in the garden.
